Announcing:  "The Revolutionary New Solution to Your Child's Problem with Bullies" -- Dr. Judy Flury's Powerful...

Bully-Buster & Assertiveness Training Camp

Camp will be Taught personally by Dr. Judy Flury

First, A Note from Dr. Flury:

It’s difficult to convey how important it is that all parents, and all adults who work with children, take the current bullying epidemic seriously. This is not the phenomenon of every generation before where it’s just something that kids need to learn to deal with and ignore, because there are “those types of people” everywhere in life. That was the correct attitude of the past, but it’s not the case any more.

The rash of suicides and suicide attempts by children as young as 8 years old due to constant bullying need to have people sitting up and taking notice. In times past, 8 year olds didn’t even know what the word suicide meant; let alone how to carry it out. Then there is also the matter of violence carried out by those who were constantly bullied.

Many, many children spend their school days in fear and anxiety now, and don’t tell their parents about it - or don’t share with them the extent of the problem, for fear of upsetting them, or from embarrassment, or from fear of the bullies targeting them worse if they do tell. As a psychologist, I am privy to inside information on the extent of this problem. And it’s not going away.

Consider the following:

"Nothing can prepare you for living with serial bullying. It is the most devastating and draining experience imaginable."

Tim Field, author of “Bullycide: An exposé of child suicide caused by bullying”

"Being bullied by a serial bully is equivalent to being stalked, or being abused as a child, and should be accorded the same gravity."

Tim Field, author of “ Bullycide: An exposé of child suicide caused by bullying”

"I just want the bullying to stop. That is all I ever wanted. I used to love going to school. Now I hate it."

(9-year-old quoted in the Sunday Telegraph)

Hopefully your child will have a chance to attend at least one of these Bully-Buster and Assertiveness Training Camps. I don’t want our kids at the mercy of bullies during the upcoming school year, and I know you’re concerned about that for your own child.

Everything you heard this past year about the extent of bullying, and the victims’ reactions to it, is unfortunately going to intensify. There are specific psychological and societal reasons for this, but suffice it to say that it’s not something that I want kids that I care about to have to suffer through each day.

This camp is not be the usual “laugh it off, stick with others, ignore it” advice usually given to kids. Using professionally produced and psychologically sound materials, I will be teaching the kids precisely what to do about the bullying, depending on what type they encounter, and I will be more importantly teaching them -- showing them -- that the problem lies NOT with them, but with the bully. Parents can tell their child all day long that the child is good, strong, worthwhile, not the problem in the situation, and that’s all well and good; but as you know, kids tend not to believe their parents about these things! They think parents are just saying that because “that’s what a parent says.”

The camp also consists of actual assertiveness training. This is an entirely separate subset of material, and is a completely different dimension to how to handle a bully -- and how not to be the target of bullies in the first place.

If you have any questions about bullying, your child, or the Bully Buster & Assertiveness Training camps, please feel free e-mail me at gpkaratekidz@gmail.com, and please also copy to aitkd@aol.com, to be sure I do receive your email. I suggest you reserve your child’s spot early! As I mentioned, several community groups are standing by to send their children, in addition to my karate students attending. Ages are 6 & up. (Yes, there is bullying going on in the 1st grade.) We can only take 40 kids per camp week, due to the hands-on and role-playing work that we’ll be doing. So do reserve early.

NOTE: Kids will also have fun at this camp! The material is not approached in a dramatic or "downer" manner. Instead, it's presented in an empowering manner, with kids learning that they CAN do something about it, discovering that they DON'T have to be victimized, and realizing that they're NOT alone. There will also be a lot of humor, fun, and self-esteem building mixed in!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
At the Bully Buster & Assertiveness Training camp:

  • Your child will learn new and powerful techniques for how to respond to stop the bully, and how to avoid being targeted by bullies in the first place
  • A 2nd component to this revolutionary new training is Children’s Assertiveness Training.  Your child will learn respectful, yet strong & direct ways to stand up for themselves and their rights – this is a skill that will aid them for the rest of their lives
  • There is no “fighting” involved. Kids will learn, among other things, “Verbal Martial Arts” – strategies used for years by military, corrections officers, and police in order to keep situations from escalating out of control. This is “Tactical Communications”, brought down to a “kid-level”, for your child to use!
